Gifting Solutions for a Newborn

From the time I started Sprinklys, I have had lots of friends ask me what do you give a newborn? What is practical yet gift-worthy?

So here is my list of recommendations. This is also inspired by my experiences from when I was a new mom and the gifts I received for my little one!🤱🏽

Clothes/ Apparel

Infants never have enough clothes. Parents are constantly changing the baby due to a spit-up or a pee, or depending on the time of the day or after a bath! Our babies also outgrow them pretty soon. Amongst clothes, the following works well for any newborn -

  • Muslin Jhablas & Onesies - This serves as excellent daytime wear. Easy to change. Easy to maintain. The muslin cotton jhablas are very airy, breathable and serve as an excellent day time wear.

  • Rompers - These are excellent for sleeping at night as they provide full coverage without restricting the baby.

  • Muslin Swaddles - The most versatile baby product ever. It can be used as a swaddle of course, then as a towel, a burp cloth, a napkin, practically anything. These can be used even after the baby is no longer an infant anymore.

Toys

Newborns are typically tracking sounds, especially of their moms. You can gift them toys such as -

  • Rattles - Do not expect the newborn to grasp it yet. You can play the rattle near them to let them experience different sounds.

  • A musical toy - Any toy that plays gentle, soft music. My daughter had a toy that played a soothing harp- based music. We hung it near her bed. After listening to the same music repeatedly, it began working as a calming instrument for her.

Baby Gear -

There is a whole slew of products available for newborns in the market when it comes to baby gear. I would recommend the below if it lies within your budget.

  • Diaper Bag - There are a zillion things that new parents have to carry now when travelling even the shortest distance with a newborn. Diaper bags accommodate a lot of stuff and have ample pockets to carry everything that is needed.

  • Cradles or Baby Rockers - Newborns loved to be rocked. I am yet to see a newborn who does not like to be rocked! Placing them in a baby rocker for short periods of time also ensures that the parents/caretakers are rested or can tackle other tasks that need their attention.
